The Hostage Healing Programme is a partnership between JNFSA and The Base that was created in response to the October 7 attacks and the subsequent hostage crisis. The programme brings former Hamas hostages, released captives, survivors, and their immediate families to South Africa for a period of respite, recovery, and emotional healing.

The programme aims to:

  • Provide a safe and supportive environment away from the trauma of war and captivity.

  • Allow survivors and families time to rest and recover.

  • Offer opportunities for meaningful connection with the South African Jewish community.

  • Create spaces where survivors can share their experiences if they choose.

  • Foster resilience, healing, and hope through community support and time spent in South Africa's natural surroundings.
