From the end of World War II until Israel's established, the ''Bricha'' movement operated clandestinely in Europe to smuggle some 300,000 Holocaust survivors to freedom.
On the 24th of August, the JNF-SA hosted a webinar where we explored this incredible and largely untold story of Jewish ingenuity, resilience and redemption.
To commmorate this great Jewish Escape, JNF South Africa in partnership with Keren Kayemet LeIsrael has established the Bricha Trail in one of Israel’s most beautiful forests in the Haifa area, on the Hof HaCarmel.
Included in the list of speakers were:
Professor Yehuda Bauer, Adviser to Yad Vashem as well as Member of the Israeli Academy of Sciences and the preeminent Holocaust historian.
Professor Avinoam J. Patt, Professor and Director, Center for Judaic Studies, University of Connecticut.
Dr. Miri Nehari, Chairperson of the “Habricha Legacy Association”, whose purpose and goal is to bring to life a remarkable, heroic, adventurous chapter in the history of the Jewish people.
Dr Omri Bonneh, KKL-JNF guru, both in theory and practice, on everything related to agriculture and KKL-JNF.
